House Removals in London
Flats above shops, terraces with no parking, mansion blocks with a lift the size of a phone box. We move London homes, and we plan for the awkward bits before the van turns up.
- Flats and houses
- Weekend moves available
- Dismantle and reassemble
- Packing optional
A house removal with Jack Removals means a crew and a van sized to your home, booked against a written quote. We look at what you own and how we get it out — stairs, lifts, parking — then load, drive and unload at the new place, putting furniture in the rooms you choose. Packing, dismantling beds and wardrobes, and storage between dates are all available if you want them, and none of them are forced on you.
What a full-service house move includes
It starts with a survey, either in person or by video call. We walk through every room, including the loft, the shed and the cupboard under the stairs everyone forgets. That tells us how big a van you need, how many people, and whether anything needs special handling, like a piano, a glass table top or a wardrobe that only went in because someone took the door off its hinges.
On the day the crew protects floors and banisters, wraps furniture in blankets, takes apart anything that will not go through a doorway in one piece and loads the van so the heavy stuff sits low. At the other end it all comes off in reverse, beds go back together, and boxes land in the room written on the side. You walk round with the crew lead before they leave and sign off when you are happy.
Access, parking and suspension bays in London
In most of London the hardest part of a move is not the stairs, it is the kerb. If there is a controlled parking zone outside either address, the van needs somewhere legal to stand while it is loaded. Most boroughs let you apply for a parking bay suspension, which reserves a stretch of road for the van. Each council sets its own fee and its own notice period, so apply well before the move date. We tell you exactly how much kerb a van of the size we are bringing needs.
Red routes are run by Transport for London, not the borough, and loading on them is restricted. If your door is on one, we look for the nearest side street or loading bay and plan the carry from there. Tell us about narrow stairs, a shared entrance or a lift that must be booked with the building manager. Knowing about it in advance costs nothing. Finding out on the day costs everyone time.
When the dates do not line up
Chains break and completion dates slip. If you have to leave before you can get into the new place, we can load your things and hold them in storage, then deliver when you have the keys. If both sales complete together but the keys come late, tell us early. We would rather plan a slow, careful day than rush a crew because the solicitor phoned at lunchtime.
What comes with a house move
-
A survey before the quote
In person or by video. The quote is built on what you actually own, not a guess from the number of bedrooms.
-
Floor and furniture protection
Blankets on furniture, covers on carpets and doorframes, and mattress bags for every bed we move.
-
Dismantling and reassembly
Beds, wardrobes and tables taken apart at one end and put back together at the other, fixings bagged and labelled.
-
Room-by-room unloading
Label a box "kitchen" and it goes in the kitchen. Furniture goes where you point, not where it fits.
-
One contact for the move
The same person deals with your quote, your date and your questions, so you are not explaining everything twice.
-
Goods-in-transit cover
Our goods-in-transit policy can be extended to your belongings when you give us a signed valued inventory before the move.
What affects the cost of house removals
We do not publish prices, because no two jobs are the same. Your written quote is worked out from these things:
- How much you own, which decides the van size and crew
- Access at both ends: stairs, lifts, long carries from the kerb
- Whether we pack for you or you pack yourself
- Large or awkward items such as pianos, safes and range cookers
- The distance between the two addresses
- Weekend or bank holiday dates, and storage between moves
House Removals questions
The council usually wants the request from the resident or someone acting for them, so in most boroughs it is quickest if you apply. We give you the size of van, the length of kerb needed and the times to put on the form. If you would rather we handle the application, tell us when you book and we will say whether that borough allows it.
Empty, defrost and dry them before the crew arrives. Our terms do not allow us to move a loaded freezer or fridge, and a wet one leaks over everything stacked beside it. Leave the doors slightly open so they do not smell. Once they are back in place at the new home, let them stand for a while before you switch them on, as the manufacturer recommends.
Curtains, blinds, light fittings and fitted floor coverings are outside what a removal crew does, so plan to deal with them before the move or book a handyman. A TV on a wall bracket should be taken down by whoever fitted it. Once it is off the wall, we will wrap it, box it if you have the original carton, and move it.
Yes, it just changes the plan. We add crew so nobody is carrying sofas up and down flights alone, and we check the stairwell turns during the survey. If a piece will not go round the landing, we look at taking it apart or bringing it out through a window, which needs the right kit and a dry day. Better to find out at the survey than on the stairs.
